Early Half Eagles
1813 $5 BD-1, R.2, AU58 PCGS. CAC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a. The D in the 5D denomination leans left and the first S in STATES sits over the right side of E in the banner. Only two die marriages struck the entire 95,428-piece 1813 mintage, with BD-1 the more-available variety for the date. The other 1813 variety (BD-2) is seen far less often. Frosty surfaces show only brief evidence of circulation on this near-Mint BD-1 example. It uses the same obverse as BD-2, seen here in its perfect die state. Likewise, the reverse is in its early die state with no die cracks or die clashing visible. Bright yellow-gold luster remains throughout both sides, with a few faint-orange accents. The strike is sharp and CAC approval assures the coin's high quality and eye appeal.
