Early Dollars
1799 $1 7x6 Stars, B-16, BB-158, R.2, MS63 NGC. Bowers Die State III. Few 1799 varieties are more plentiful than the BB-158 die marriage, yet in Mint State this variety is rare. Less than a dozen BB-58 pieces are certified MS60 or finer, with the present MS63 example serving as midpoint on the Condition Census. It displays an intermediate die state, lacking any of the pronounced obverse die cracks seen on the late die state. Die clashing is pronounced above the date and surrounding Liberty's portrait, as well as throughout the reverse margins. Exceptionally sharp definition confirms a sharp central strike and crisp peripheral devices. All five berries are fully struck. Lustrous, coppery-gold toning and iridescent accents add to the outstanding eye appeal.
